Peruvian garlic exports decrease in volume but increase in value

In 2024, Peru's garlic exports from January to November totaled 11,746 tons valued at $32.2 million, reflecting a 42% drop in volume but a 15% rise in value from the previous year due to increased prices. Early-year exports were hampered by adverse weather and reduced plantings, but higher international prices mitigated the impact. November 2024 saw a 22% rise in export volume and a 76% increase in value compared to November 2023, with Mexico as the top importer. Leading exporters included Agroexportadora Sol de Olmos S.A.C., Agroindustrial E&C S.A.C., and G&L Foods S.A.C.

Between January and November 2024, Peru exported 11,746 tons of garlic worth $32.2 million, which represented a 42% decrease in volume compared to the same period of the previous year. From January to October, exported volumes were lower in each month, although higher prices managed to reverse the results from October onwards, generating a positive balance. The beginning of the year for garlic was marked by a decrease in plantings and delays in crop cycles, coupled with adverse weather factors such as high temperatures and rains during the planting season, which negatively affected crop development.
