Panama's pineapple market has grown into Oceania, following New Zealand's approval of import requirements. Since February 22, 2024, Panama's pineapples have been officially allowed into the New Zealand market due to collaboration between phytosanitary authorities. The process included exchanging technical phytosanitary information, thorough inspections, and ongoing communication. New Zealand's Ministry of Primary Industry's implementation of import requirements for fresh pineapple fruit is a significant step forward for Panamanian pineapple producers and exporters. This development opens new business prospects and fosters economic growth and sustainable development.
Pineapple fields in Tân Phước district, Tien Giang province in Vietnam, flourish despite the dry season due to adequate water storage and technical advancements. In W12, about 40% of the pineapple fields have been harvested and sold at prices ranging from USD 0.36 per kilogram (kg) to USD 0.38/kg (VND 9,000/kg to VND 9,500/kg), generating a profit of over USD 0.16 (VND 4,000/kg). With over 15 thousand hectares (ha) dedicated to pineapple farming, the high and stable prices have significantly improved local farmers' income and living standards in this historically commercial pineapple farming region.
The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) intends to establish Miri as a hub for marketing pineapple-based products, focusing on attracting visitors from neighboring countries. Through the Pineapple-Based Food Sales Program, LPNM aims to reach a sales target of USD 8,454 (MYR 40,000) and draw in 3 thousand visitors by the end of Mar-24. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the pineapple farming industry nationwide and promote the acceptance of pineapple-based products. It aligns with the state government's objective to position Sarawak as a leading producer and exporter of agro-food products, including pineapple, by 2030.
