The new All Party Parliamentary Group in the UK charts a strategic course for fisheries in Parliament

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Fisheries has launched with its first meeting, electing officers and setting a cross-party agenda to support a sustainable UK fishing industry. The group, comprising 23 Parliament members, addressed issues like recruitment, offshore renewable energy, and the 2026 UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement review. Key officers include Alistair Carmichael as Chair and Melanie Onn as Co-Chair. The APPG aims to advocate for the fishing industry and related sectors, highlighting its significance to coastal economies, food security, and economic resilience.

New APPG Charts a Strategic Course for Fisheries in Parliament The new All Party Parliamentary Group on Fisheries met for their inaugural meeting at 1 Parliament Street on Tuesday last week, to elect officers and map out a cross-party work programme to promote and support a sustainable and thriving UK fishing industry in Parliament. With the Group, which is currently being formalised, comprising 23 Members across both Houses of Parliament, the well-attended meeting heard MPs and Peers discuss key issues and priorities surrounding UK fisheries – from recruitment and the development of offshore renewable energy to upcoming fisheries negotiations, including the fast-approaching 2026 review of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).
