Russia: An attempt to transport chilled trout without documents was stopped in the Smolensk region

A driver from the Republic of Belarus was found to be transporting ungutted trout without the required veterinary documents and improper packaging conditions. The cargo, missing necessary documentation and marked with no manufacturer information or expiration dates, was suspected to originate from the Republic of Karelia but was not shown in the Mercury certification system. The lack of compliance with veterinary legislation led to the seizure and disposal of the fish and administrative liability for the carrier.

During the inspection of the trailer, veterinary inspectors of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance found ungutted trout, but the driver, a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, did not have veterinary accompanying documents certifying the origin and safety of the fish. The packaging did not have the necessary information about the product, its manufacturer, or expiration dates.
