Trade4go Summary
Winter rapeseed is becoming one of the most important crops in Poland, expected to exceed less than a million hectares in the 2022-2023 season. This places it fourth in crop area after winter wheat, corn, and winter triticale. The increase in rapeseed cultivation is a recent development, with the area being much smaller two decades ago. However, the crop faces challenges such as a decrease in active substances for protection, issues with nitrogen application timing, and lack of profitability, despite some advantages over cereals this year.

Rapeseed fourth in terms of area this year Currently, winter rapeseed is one of the most important crops in the country. It is sown on less than a million hectares, and in 2022-2023 it will exceed this limit. In the structure of crops, it currently ranks fourth (behind winter wheat, corn, and winter triticale). However, taking into account the trends that have been taking place on the market in recent seasons, it can be assumed that it will soon overtake winter triticale in this ranking (for several seasons now, the area of triticale has been decreasing, while the area of rapeseed sown, if not increasing, is close to the mentioned 1 million ha). We are sowing much more rapeseed in a relatively short time Just 20 years ago, i.e. relatively recently, the area of rapeseed in Poland was much lower. In 2005, it was around 550 thousand ha. Now we would say that this is not much. In 2000, it was only 440,000 ha. Currently, potatoes and sugar beets occupy a similar area together. A ...
