The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is leading a trade mission to Hong Kong from May 12-16, 2025, to boost U.S. agricultural exports and market access. Over 35 agribusinesses, trade organizations, and representatives from five state departments of agriculture will participate.
Acting Associate Administrator Mark Slupek, leading the mission, highlighted Hong Kong's significance as a crucial Asian market, stating it provides a vital link between American farmers and ranchers and a highly dynamic consumer base. The mission aims to generate new opportunities for U.S. agricultural products and reinforce the country's reputation for quality and innovation.
Hong Kong's importance is underscored by its $1.4 billion import of U.S. agricultural products in 2024, ranking it as the 18th largest market. Its status as a free port and gateway to South China, Macau, and Southeast Asia makes it strategically vital. Further solidifying its prominence, Hong Kong is recognized as Asia's culinary capital and the 11th largest market for U.S. consumer-oriented agricultural products.
The mission will feature tailored B2B meetings with Hong Kong buyers and a Philippine delegation, USDA and industry expert briefings, site visits, and networking events. Its timing coincides with the USDA-endorsed HOFEX trade show, maximizing exposure to regional buyers.
Participating entities include representatives from numerous businesses and industry organizations, along with officials from the Alabama, Idaho, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin departments of agriculture. A partial list of participating businesses includes: Aero-Cos International, Almond Board of California, Amlat, LLC, Best Buy Grocers, and many more (see full list in original release).
