Starting from 2024, 'Wonwon seedlings' developed in collaboration with related agencies and production farms are produced by multiplying the basic seedlings obtained from cultured seedlings grown in a disease-free state in the laboratory. The Jeju Agricultural Technology Institute expects that self-sufficiency of strawberry seedlings within the island will reduce the cost burden on farms, allow for the planting of high-quality seedlings at an earlier date, and contribute to stable growth and higher profitability due to increased productivity. The strawberry cultivation area in the Jeju region reaches 43 hectares as of 2024, with an annual gross income of 12.08 billion won. However, until now, most farms have been purchasing and using seedlings from other regions.
