Portugal secured increased fishing quotas for 2024, with Hake catches rising by 12% year-on-year (YoY) and reductions in Sole dropping by 17% YoY. The negotiated Portuguese quota with the European Commission climbs from about 126 thousand metric tons (mt) in 2023 to over 131 thousand mt in 2024. Portuguese waters see a 12% uptick in Hake catches, 7% for Monkfish, 8% for Sand Sole, 9% for Black Scabbardfish, and 5% for Horse Mackerel. These quota adjustments signal a shift in fishing dynamics and potential impacts on the fishing industry for the upcoming year.
