Russia: Restrictions on the export of caviar from Kamchatka have been proposed to be extended for another two years

An experiment in Kamchatka Krai, Russia, has successfully reduced the illegal export of caviar on passenger planes after imposing a transportation limit on the product. The experiment, which started in 2022 and will continue until 2027, has seen only legally produced caviar transported without weight restrictions. The success of the experiment has prompted other regions to join, and a new bill submitted to the State Duma aims to extend the experiment and further regulate the transportation of caviar to prevent illegal activities.

Let us recall that the experiment started in Kamchatka Krai on November 1, 2022. - If the caviar is not industrially produced, and this is what we usually buy at the market, then the maximum transported weight is ten kilograms, - explained Deputy Chairman of the regional government Yulia Morozova. - If you are transporting industrially produced caviar and can provide legal confirmation, then the volume of transportation is not limited. Even such a soft measure has yielded good results in two years. It has become almost impossible to export caviar illegally on passenger planes. Two years ago, without waiting for the results of the experiment (and in accordance with Federal Law No. 254 of July 14, 2022, it will last until August 1, 2025), Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and Khabarovsk Krai wished to join it.
