Contrary to what had been happening in the last four months of the year, where there was an increase in cattle slaughter in the country, in August the slaughter in the meat processing industries was reduced by 12% compared to July, according to a report by the National Service for Quality and Animal Health (Senacsa). In the eighth month of the year, 193,303 heads of cattle were sent to meat processing plants, that is, 25,905 less than in July, when 219,208 heads were slaughtered. Comparing the slaughter numbers for August with the same month in 2023, when 212,654 heads were processed, a reduction of 9% is observed. However, due to the adverse weather conditions faced by the main productive areas of the country, the total number of cattle slaughtered up to August has increased compared to last year, reaching 1,474,171 heads, 3% more than the 1,415,943 slaughtered in the same period of the previous year.
