Jeonnam Agricultural Research Institute, distributing seeds for high-quality forage crop 'Triticale'

The Jeonnam Provincial Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Kim Haeng-ran) announced on the 17th that it will distribute seeds of 'triticale', a high-quality feed crop, to reduce livestock feed costs and enhance the competitiveness of livestock farmers. Triticale is a crop bred from wheat and rye, which is resistant to cold and diseases, has a high yield (17 tons/ha of dry matter), and contains 6.6% crude protein, making it very suitable as a roughage. Particularly, it can be used as a substitute crop for barley in winter, providing high cultivation stability and significant feed cost reduction, which is expected to greatly help in the stable management of livestock such as Hanwoo. The variety being distributed this time was developed by the National Institute of Crop Science.
