In 2024, the area under berry and fruit crops increased in Lviv region, Ukraine

The Lviv region in Ukraine has seen a slight increase in the area dedicated to fruit and berry plantations, reaching 13.7 thousand hectares in 2024, an increase of 0.6 thousand hectares from the previous year. Businesses have planted an additional 0.3 thousand hectares, bringing their total to 2.0 thousand hectares. The region has also seen an expansion in new plantings of fruit and berry crops, covering 222.5 hectares. The production volume in the horticulture sector is projected to rise by 7.3% to 157.3 thousand tons, with a yield increase of 3.8% to 114.7 tons per hectare. There has been a notable increase in the yield of blueberries, apricots, raspberries, apples, and garden strawberries. However, the director of the department of agro-industrial development of the Lviv OVA, Lyudmila Goncharenko, emphasized the need for improvement in post-harvest processing to enhance product quality and market timing.

In the structure of plantings in farms of all categories, fruit crops occupy 80%, berry crops - 12%, and nut crops - 8%.
