Imports of cat and dog food in Russia have decreased threefold since 2021

Russian enterprises have doubled the production of cat and dog food, leading to a threefold decrease in import of feed for non-productive animals since 2021. The country's domestic production of pet food has doubled over the past four years, reaching 50% of the pet food market in 2024. The Association of Retail Companies (AKORT) stated that labeling, which began on March 1, 2025, does not significantly affect the cost of products. Retail chains ensure that price increases are justified and have developed a mechanism to assess the impact of labeling on product prices.

The main suppliers last year were Belgium, from which 18.6 thousand tons of this product were imported, Italy (9.4 thousand tons), as well as the EAEU countries (5.8 thousand tons).
