The wholesale price for strawberries in the Tajikistan market has fallen low to USD 1.25/kg. The average monthly price in May is a 36% decrease from the previous month. The substantial price decline is due to an oversupply in the market, as there are three main regions of the country harvesting at once as a consequence of high temperatures.
The wholesale price for strawberries in the Tajikistan market has fallen low to
USD 1.25/kg. The average monthly price in May is a 36% decrease from the previous month.
The substantial price decline is due to an oversupply in the market, as there are three main regions of the country harvesting at once as a consequence of high temperatures.
Every year from the end of April to the beginning of May, strawberry prices decrease and remain at a minimum level until June due to the intensive harvest over this period.
However, in 2023, due to scorching temperatures, three of the main regions of the country are harvesting at the same time with large volumes and low quality. The hot weather has accelerated the ripening of the berry leading to its fast wilting and it has forced producers to sell quickly and at a lower price.
The low quality has also affected strawberry supplies for processing, as in some cases, strawberries do not meet the minimum requirements of processors, pushing prices even further down.
