The price of Okra in India has substantially recovered from the price crash suffered since Oct-22 in the Kerala region. The price decreased from USD 0.29 / kg in late October to USD 0.10 / kg by the end of November. The plummeting price was due to an oversupply in the market. However, since the last week of November, prices have increased consecutively for 3 weeks at USD 0.10 / kg in WK 48 to USD 0.39 / kg in WK 51.
The price for fresh Okra in the Kayamkulam wholesale market in the Alappuzha district increased by 56% WoW and 95% MoM on W51, reaching USD 0.39/kg. The increase was a consequence of the price crash that was reported after a lack of rainfall in the region.
Due to dry conditions, several farmers moved from paddy to vegetable cultivation, which led to an oversupply in the market. The current price is 23.5% below last year's price levels.
