Spanish raspberry's wholesale price dropped to USD 15.83/kg in W1 May-23, a decrease of 10% WoW and 27% MoM. Although prices have continued to decline, prices were still above the same week in the previous year. The increasing availability of raspberries in the Spanish market contributed to the price drop in the first week of May.
The downward trend of frozen shrimp prices in India continues. In the week starting May 1st, 2023, wholesale frozen shrimp prices in New Delhi, India, fell 7.1% week-over-week and 23% month-over-month to a fresh 14-week low of INR 397.5/kg.
Prices had reached a multi-year high of INR 582.5/kg in mid-March after which a downward trend started which has led prices to their current levels.
As reported in Tridge's May Outlook for Meat and Seafood, shrimp prices in India have been falling on the back of increased global shrimp production and lower production costs, including feed.
Prices are expected to continue falling in the upcoming weeks, but to still remain above 2022 levels.
India is currently one of the two largest frozen shrimp exporters in the world, competing with Ecuador, which has had a growing market share in the past few years and with an average lower export price derived from lower production costs. Nonetheless, India continues to seek competitiveness against Ecuadorian shrimp, implementing new measures, such as a reduction in the import fee for fishmeal in February 2023.
