The wholesale price of fresh clementine in Spain escalated 36.73% WoW to USD 1.34/kg in W1 of February 2023. Lower available quantities on the market, coupled with increased demand in Spain and the EU, drove the price up, according to Carlos Iborra, Tridge Global Origination Manager in Spain.
The wholesale price of fresh clementine in Spain escalated 36.73% WoW to USD 1.34/kg in W1 of February 2023. Compared to the same week in the previous month price is nominally higher, with a 25.23% MoM increase from USD 1.07/kg.
According to Carlos Iborra, Tridge Global Origination Manager in Spain, there are several reasons for the price increase. First, available clementines volumes are lower due to summer and autumn weather conditions (drought and high temperatures). Secondly, high inflation and increased demand in Spain and the EU market pressured the price jump.
Expectations are that due to lower available quantities of clementines, the Spain sales campaign will end in Mid-March. Traders are getting the desired prices and are hoping that the current level will maintain until the end of the campaign.
