The price for wholesale carrots in Uzbekistan had an unexpected rebound in W14 after expected batches of domestic carrots were not yet in the market. The wholesale price on W14 reached USD 0.44/kg, a 27% WoW increase, returning to the high prices seen in February when there is a usual gap in the market for domestic supply.
Over the past month, orange prices in China dropped due to low demand. In the Urumqi market, wholesale prices of fresh oranges fell to CYN 18.00 per kg on the 10th of April from CYN 20.00 per kg on the 13th of March, a 10% decrease.
Demand for imported oranges has been lower this year due to the increasing number of domestic late-maturing varieties and the extended production season of Chinese oranges. Fruit sizes have also been smaller than the previous year, with the highly sort after large-sized oranges in low supply.
Tridge expects prices to improve in the coming month as orange demand is expected to increase as the weather warms up.
