Data from Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) reveals a significant rise in egg imports to Russia since Jan-24. Over 160 million eggs were supplied from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Belarus. In response to significant egg price increases in late 2023, Russia has successfully implemented measures to stabilize the domestic market through increased imports.
Belarus emerged as the primary supplier, contributing 133.7 million eggs. Türkiye and Azerbaijan also played significant roles, providing 12.3 million and 14.9 million eggs, respectively. Feb-24 data indicates continued import activity, with 7.6 million eggs from Türkiye and 10.7 million eggs from Azerbaijan. The influx of imported eggs has demonstrably impacted domestic prices. Federal State Statistics Service (ROSSTAT) data shows a 61.35% YoY increase in egg prices by Dec-23. Egg prices in Russia have shown a positive trend since Jan-24, declining by 2.27%. Russia's strategy of increasing egg imports has yielded positive results in stabilizing domestic prices.
The positive start to 2024 suggests a potentially strong year for the Chilean egg industry. Data from Chile's National Statistics Institute (INE) paints a positive picture of the country's egg industry at the beginning of 2024. Overall egg production in Chile rose by 4.2% YoY in Jan-24, reaching 339.7 million units compared to 325.9 million units in Jan-23. The national laying hen population also saw a modest increase of 0.8% YoY, reaching 14.3 million birds in Jan-24. Production growth was primarily driven by white eggs, experiencing a 4.3% YoY increase to 9.8 million units. Brown egg production also increased by 3.9% YoY to 3.9 million units.
The Metropolitan Region led national egg production, contributing 41.8% of the total volume. This region also saw the highest production increase of13% YoY. Valparaíso and Ñuble regions followed with significant contributions and growth with 5.8% YoY and 8.9% YoY, respectively. A similar regional distribution pattern was observed for the laying hen population.
