INTRODUCTION
AARUN Enterprises (Private) Limited is a family owned company aiming to establish its business by exporting finest quality dried fruits (Almonds, Apricot and Walnuts) grown in mountainous region of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Pakistan. GB’s economy depends largely on dry fruits and agriculture and is famous for its almond, apricot, walnut and cherry production in the world. Almonds and walnuts produced in GB are rich in taste and are produced using conventional organic methods. Traditionally, walnut, almond and apricot have been the primary cash crops generating reasonable income for the growers despite loses and limited access to the market.

AARUN Enterprises' head office is located in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, but the production comes from mountainous region of Gilgit Baltistan and adjacent Kohistan valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province of Pakistan. GB holds a unique importance both strategically and geographically. It allows a corridor for trade between China and other countries through China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). GB is blessed with naturally suitable climate and weather for growing Almond, Cherry, Apricot and Walnut. GB is famous for its apricot, walnut and cherry production in the world. Almonds and walnuts produced in GB are rich in taste and are produced using conventional organic methods.
Juglote (Sai), native village of AARUN Enterprises’ management has a strategic location in terms of its connectivity with all 9 districts of GB and rest of the country through KKH and local road network. Any consignment bound to reach down country or the sea port for export from any part of GB must pass Juglote (Sai). Juglote is the meeting point of three mighty mountain ranges namely Himalayas, Karakorum and Hindukush).

Population of GB is predominantly rural (almost 95%) with agriculture and fruit growing major sources of livelihood, while a small proportion is also associated with services (armed and civil), daily-wage labour and mining. Landholdings are very small (0.6-0.8 acres/household), though the distinct feature of GB is that over 90% of the households own some agricultural land as compared to 52% in rest of the country. Similarly, the ownership of cattle, goats and sheep is almost 30% higher than rest of country (Pakistan Country Report-2014 by IFAD). The people of GB are mostly engaged in microenterprises and small scale businesses relating to horticulture, cottage industry and mining sector. Potato seed, vegetables and fruits cultivation dominates in the agriculture sector. The local cottage industry comprises of local handicrafts, stone carving, woodcarving, traditional jewellery, traditional textile (wool spinning and weaving), fruit processing (dry fruit products) etc.
