Vietnam's shellfish exports continue to grow

Vietnam's shellfish and aquatic product exports are projected to see a significant increase in the remaining months of 2024, with clams, scallops, snails, oysters, and other aquatic products contributing to over US$95 million in exports in the first seven months of the year, marking a 24% increase from the previous year. The export value of snails alone has experienced the highest growth rate. Additionally, the import of mollusks from Vietnam has risen, with China's imports increasing 119 times compared to 2003. The shellfish industry in Vietnam employs around 200,000 workers and is primarily located in the southern coastal areas. However, production is expected to decrease due to weather conditions caused by climate change. There has also been a surge in imports of lobsters, octopus, and flower crabs, with China showing a significant interest in importing rock lobsters from Vietnam.

As one of the main aquatic products exported to Vietnam, shellfish and other aquatic products are expected to continue to grow in the last few months of this year. Statistics from the Vietnam Association of Aquatic Products Processing and Exporters show that in the first seven months of 2024, Vietnam's shellfish exports are expected to exceed US$95 million, an increase of more than 24% year-on-year; among them, the export value of clams is US$52 million, the export value of scallops is US$14 million, the export value of snails is US$16 million, the export value of oysters is more than US$8 million, and the export value of other aquatic products is nearly US$4 million. In particular, the export value of snails has the highest growth rate compared with the same period in 2023, exceeding 57%. .
