Vietnam's durian exports exceed US$1.5 billion, and fruit and vegetable exports to China increase by 30%

Vietnam is experiencing a significant lead in the fruit and vegetable export market, with durian taking the top spot and expecting to reach an export volume of $3 billion by the end of the year. The country is also on the verge of exporting its frozen durian to China, potentially adding to the export value. Despite a decline in durian production this year, prices remain high. Meanwhile, the global dragon fruit market has seen a decrease due to the El Nino phenomenon, providing an opportunity for Vietnamese dragon fruit to dominate. The province of Binh Thuan is taking steps to improve dragon fruit quality and productivity. In the lychee sector, Bac Giang Province has seen a decrease in production but higher sales revenue due to improved quality and planting techniques. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's approval of planting area and packaging plant codes has been positive, helping to determine production based on market demand and enhancing the brand reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products.

From January to June this year, durian continued to lead the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable market, with an export volume almost four times that of dragon fruit. The total durian export volume in the first half of the year is expected to increase to US$1.5 billion. If it can continue on this basis, it is expected that the annual durian export volume this year may reach US$3 billion. Vietnamese media said that if everything goes well, Vietnamese frozen durian will be allowed to be exported to China, and the annual export volume may exceed US$3.5 billion. A local grower said that compared with last year, this year's durian production has declined, averaging only about 15 tons per hectare, so the price has been kept high at 60,000-100,000 Vietnamese dong/kg (about RMB 17-29/kg).
