Vietnam's durian and jackfruit shipments warned by China for not meeting quarantine standards

The Plant Protection Department (PPD) of Vietnam has issued a warning about a shipment of fresh fruit, including durian and jackfruit, that fails to meet the plant quarantine and food safety requirements of importing countries, especially China. This could potentially damage the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market and lead to a loss in market share. To prevent this, the PPD has called on the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and related organizations to increase inspections, enforce food safety and quality standards, and suspend codes for non-compliant facilities. From January 20, 2025, growers and packers will be required to conduct pesticide and heavy metal residue testing, and traceability will be mandatory for code granting and maintenance. Owners of growing area codes and packing facilities are advised to notify the provincial agency if they allow other entities to export or pack products from their facilities.
