Ukraine increased its share in the European meal market

Ukrainian sunflower meal exports to China have seen a decrease from 45% to 36% over the past four years, as Ukraine has pivoted its focus towards the European Union (EU), where its sunflower meal exports have surged from 37% to 75%. The EU's consumption of sunflower meal is predominantly met by domestic production, with Ukraine, Russia, and Argentina being the primary suppliers. Meanwhile, soybean meal consumption in the EU stands at 42 million tons, with a significant portion sourced from Brazil and Argentina. Ukraine exports half a million tons of soybean meal, largely to the EU, and there is a growing interest in the EU to purchase Ukrainian rapeseed, given that only 5-6% of rapeseed meal in the EU is imported.

Co-founder of Triumph Feed Kostyantyn Bughera said this at the "Fat-and-Oil Industry-2024" International Conference. According to him, the share of Ukrainian sunflower meal exports to China has decreased from 45% to 36% over the past 4 years. Ukraine is more interested in selling meal to the EU, and exports of soybean meal to this market have increased from 37% to 75%. "In the EU, the own production of sunflower meal is quite significant and accounts for approximately 70% of the total consumption of 10 million tons/year. That is, the import is a little more than 3 million tons, of which approximately 42% is Ukraine's share, the Russian Federation is in second place, and Argentina is in third place. These three countries are the main suppliers of sunflower meal to Europe," Konstantin Bugera noted. He also informed that in Europe the volume of soybean meal consumption is 42 million tons, of which approximately 63% is domestic production and 37% is imported from Brazil and Argentina. ...
