Tomato and acorn prices plummet, cucumber and eggplant prices hold steady

Good weather conditions have led to an increase in greenhouse vegetable harvests, but there is a problem of product absorption in the domestic market due to reduced demand caused by the economic crisis. However, exports are doing well due to issues in Spanish production. The prices for various greenhouse vegetables are mentioned, with tomatoes having a significant problem of delayed harvests resulting in large quantities and low prices. On the other hand, eggplants have reduced quantities but good exports, and cucumbers have a good flow in exports with rising prices.

However, there are problems in the absorption of products, mainly in the domestic market because demand has decreased due to the economic crisis. The positive thing is that exports have a good flow due to problems in Spanish production. The average producer prices, on Wednesday (January 29, 2025), at the auctions of Crete are: tomato 60 cents, cucumbers (A int.) 1.09 euros, Knossos cucumber 1.21 euros, acorn tomato (Lobello) 1.93 euros, eggplant 1.76 euros, horn pepper 1.76 euros, Florina pepper 1.93 euros, bottle gourd 1.59 euros.
