Brazil: Tilapia prices fall but producer's purchasing power grows

In June, tilapia prices saw a decrease across all monitored regions, as retailers remained well stocked and slaughterhouses showed minimal demand. Despite the price drop, tilapia producers experienced an improvement in their purchasing power compared to the same period in 2023, largely due to a significant reduction in feed prices, a key expense for producers. However, this improvement was not observed in the Grandes Lagos region.

With retailers still supplied and slaughterhouses demanding little fish, tilapia prices fell from May to June in all regions monitored by Cepea. Despite this, the producer's purchasing power in the month was above that recorded in the same period in 2023.
