This was stated by the charitable organization Fairtrade and the large international banana supplier Fyffes on the eve of the Fruit Attraction 2026 exhibition in Madrid. According to Anna Pierides, a representative of the Fairtrade Foundation, banana producers are simultaneously confronting several serious threats. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense, and the El Niño phenomenon is leading to droughts, floods, and seasonal instability. An additional danger is the rapidly spreading Fusarium TR4 disease, capable of affecting banana plantations in various countries.
