Tet grapefruit prices may increase dramatically in Vietnam

Due to a severe heatwave in 2024, the grapefruit harvest for the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025 is expected to be greatly reduced, leading to a significant increase in grapefruit prices. The decrease in grapefruit cultivation due to erratic weather and farmers switching to other crops has further exacerbated the shortage. More than 1 month before the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, many cooperatives and green-skinned grapefruit growers in the Eastern and Western regions of the South said that grapefruit prices are on the rise. Mr. Le Minh Sang, Director of Tan My Fruit Cooperative (Binh Duong province) said that due to the impact of the peak heat wave in 2024, the output of Tet grapefruit in Bac Tan Uyen, Binh Duong has decreased by half. The number of grapefruit being prepared for Tet also does not have many beautiful fruits. However, due to the poor harvest of grapefruit, some traders are using capital to buy pomelos from some gardens at "sky-high" prices, twice as high as normal. "Some people have "fixed" the selling price of Tet grapefruit at the garden at an average of nearly 50,000 VND/kg.
