Switzerland boosts the competitiveness of quinoa and tarwi in La Libertad

The 'Markahuamachuco: Competitive development in quinoa and tarwi' project, backed by the Swiss Economic Cooperation (SECO) and implemented by Helvetas Peru, aims to boost the economic development of 315 small producers in Peru's Sierra de La Libertad region. The project, lasting 30 months, will focus on increasing the productivity and organic certification of quinoa and tarwi, as well as adding value to these crops through the production of pearled quinoa, flours, and bitterless tarwi. This initiative is set to enhance the income and improve the quality of life of these producers, promoting sustainability, innovation, and inclusion in the agro-industrial sector.

With the commitment to transform the quinoa and tarwi value chains, the “Markahuamachuco: Competitive development in quinoa and tarwi” project was officially presented. This effort seeks to strengthen the capacities of 315 small producers in the Sierra de La Libertad, promoting innovation, sustainability and economic development in the agroindustry sector. With the participation of Mr. Massimo Bloch, director of the Swiss Economic Cooperation – SECO, Mrs. Melissa Donet, general director of Cedepas Norte; Mrs. Francisca Altamirano, president of the Markahuamachuco Ecological Agrarian Cooperative; and Mrs. Binolia Porcel, advisor to the Helvetas Peru country program, the signing of the start of this important project took place.
