StoneX predicts further growth in Brazil’s 2024/25 cotton crop

Consultancy StoneX has forecasted a record high cotton production for Brazil in the 2024/25 harvest, reaching 3.82 million tonnes. This represents a 5.4% increase from the previous season, attributed mainly to an expansion in the planted area, especially in Mato Grosso. Despite this, the export volume for the 2023/24 cycle is expected to remain steady at 2.9 million tons, with the 2024/25 cycle predicting shipments roughly equivalent at 2.8 million tons. Brazil is the world's leading cotton exporter.

By Roberto Samora SÃO PAULO (Reuters) - Brazil's cotton production in the 2024/25 harvest was estimated on Wednesday at a record 3.82 million tonnes (lint), an increase of 5.4% compared to the previous season, driven by an increase in the planted area, according to the first estimate by consultancy StoneX for the new cycle. StoneX estimates an increase in the planted area of around 128 thousand hectares (+6.4%), driven mainly by Mato Grosso, where it should increase by 112 thousand hectares (+7.6%). Productivity, however, should be monitored as the harvest develops. For 2023/24, StoneX indicated a "small" revision of 50 thousand hectares upwards in the area of Mato Grosso, the country's largest producer. Thus, Brazil is expected to end the cycle harvesting 3.62 million tonnes of lint.
