Russian breeders have created a drought-resistant variety of French fries

The 'Campus' project by the National Agrarian Agency showcases the 'Vostorg' potato variety, developed by the Federal Research Center for Potatoes named after A.G. Lorha. Known for its high yield, drought resistance, and high starch content, 'Vostorg' is ideal for French fries production and potato starch processing. It has been included in Russia's State Register of Breeding Achievements and has received positive feedback from Wee Fry, resulting in a cultivation agreement. Under optimal conditions, 'Vostorg' can yield up to 70 t/ha.

In the “Campus” project of the National Agrarian Agency, we talk about an innovative potato variety from breeders of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Federal Research Center for Potatoes named after A.G. Lorha." The new product combines such characteristics as high yield, drought resistance, high starch content and suitability for processing into French fries. The variety, named “Vostorg”, has already been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements approved for use on the territory of the Russian Federation and is available for cultivation. “Vostorg” has already been assessed by fries manufacturers. Its elongated tubers, which are ideal for making French fries, as well as its non-darkening pulp, won over one of the largest producers of this product in Russia, the Wee Fry company.
