Russia expects a serious surplus of seeds of two crops

Russia is set to have an excess of sunflower and corn seeds for the upcoming sowing season, with estimated surpluses of 6.7 and 10.2 thousand tons, respectively. This surplus is expected despite a zero quota on imports from unfriendly countries. Agricultural producers are urged to purchase seeds and choose a supplier in advance due to concerns about winter crop survival, which may require reseeding. A new policy will distribute seed quotas only to companies with a proven track record of deliveries, aiming to prevent past issues where quotas were distributed to inactive suppliers.

This year, the domestic Russian market is expected to overproduce its own sunflower and corn seeds for the upcoming sowing season, which will amount to about 6.7 and 10.2 thousand tons. This was reported by the executive director of the National Association of Corn and Oilseed Seed Producers (NAPSKiMK) Mikhail Samus, pole.rf reports. He noted that this will be possible despite the introduction of a zero quota on the import of these products from unfriendly countries. According to him, today there is a chance to buy the entire range of seeds for corn of different maturity according to the FAO index, sunflower for different sowing technologies and even soybeans of different maturity categories. At the same time, Samus recommended that agricultural producers take care of purchasing seeds and selecting a dealer in advance.
