Potato prices rose by more than a third in June

In Russia, potato prices surged by 33.7 percent over the past month, reaching an average of 20.74 rubles per kilogram, largely due to reliance on imports, as reported by Rosstat and the Ministry of Agriculture. The early harvest from southern regions is anticipated to lower prices soon. Among fruits and vegetables, potatoes experienced the highest price increase, followed by apples at 10.2 percent. Conversely, prices for tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, bananas, garlic, and grapes fell. Overall, fruit and vegetable prices rose by two percent in June compared to May, by 8.9 percent since the start of the year, and by 19.1 percent compared to June of last year.

Today, the main share of the Russian market is made up of imported potatoes. At the same time, the early harvest from the southern regions has already begun to arrive on the shelves.
