In the Mykolaiv region, a quarantine regime has been introduced due to a new pest – the potato moth. This was reported by the State Consumer Service. The larvae of the insect enjoy feasting on the leaves of potatoes and tomatoes, and the loss of the crop will increase the prices of vegetables. The pest was noticed in the village of Sebino, Kostiantynivska village council of the Mykolaiv district. The caterpillars relish the leaves, stems of plants, and even potato tubers. In the southern part of Ukraine, in field conditions, there can be 4 to 5 generations of potato moths per season, and the duration of development of one generation is from 20 to 60 days. Also, in the village of Shevchenkove, Shevchenkovska village council, a South American tomato moth has been spotted. Its caterpillars feed on all parts of the plants at all stages of growth.
