Nicaragua's sugar production exceeds 300,000 tons this harvest season

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry in Nicaragua announced that the sugar harvest for the 2024 season will commence on November 12, 2024, with the main production occurring in four sugar mills across the provinces of Chinandega, Rivas and Managua. The quarter's sugar production is estimated at 300,000 tons, with 57% being raw sugar, 32% sulfite sugar, and 11% refined sugar. Additionally, the harvest is expected to yield 55,294 tons of molasses, used as livestock feed, highlighting the significance of sugarcane production in the Nicaraguan economy, which ranks third among export products and employs over 50,000 people directly and over 136,000 indirectly.
