Growth in sunflower areas in Ukraine

Ukrainian farmers are planning to increase the cultivation of corn and sunflower crops in the next spring campaign, according to Svetlana Lytvyn, head of the analytical department of the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business. The total area sown with spring crops, including wheat, barley, and rapeseed, is projected to remain steady at 19 million hectares. Sunflower planting is expected to see a 4% increase, while wheat planting is predicted to decline by 2% due to insufficient moisture during autumn sowing. Corn planting, on the other hand, is anticipated to rise by 10% due to increased prices and a lack of transitional residues. However, rapeseed planting is expected to decrease by about 15% due to soil moisture issues during the autumn sowing season.

Due to the shortage of raw materials for the processing industry last year, sunflower prices increased, but in 2025 Ukraine may influence the market with larger quantities if climatic conditions allow for a quality harvest.
