According to the agency, the final conclusion of the pear export quarantine negotiation with Egypt last month has increased the number of countries that can export pears from 17 to 18, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The agency expects that this negotiation will lay the foundation for entering the North African market. Additionally, Jeonnam Yeongam has been newly added to the pear export zone in Australia, expanding the export zones from six to seven locations, including Sangju, Naju, and Gochang. The varieties of grapes that can be exported to Australia have also been expanded from three varieties, such as Kyoho, Campbell Early, and Shine Muscat, to all varieties, which will be applied from the second half of this year. The export period for watermelons to both Australia and Vietnam has been extended by one month, from December to May of the following year to June of the same year. Vietnam has been immediately applied this year, and Australia will be implemented from next year. The quarantine burden for farms exporting tomatoes to Japan has also been eased. The Japanese quarantine authorities excluded the "tomato hornworm" from the list of quarantine pests and plant diseases on the 18th of last month, abolishing additional quarantine requirements such as regular inspections of cultivation sites and installation of insect nets in greenhouses. Furthermore, the agency explained that it is continuing consultations with the export industry and producer groups, etc., to open the "Fresh Agricultural Product Export Quarantine Conference" to gather opinions and continue consultations for opening new markets and improving quarantine requirements. athena@yna.co.kr
