Trade4go Summary
Durian prices in Vietnam have surged to over 100,000 VND/kg due to strong export demand. The increase is attributed to the end of the durian season in the Southeast region and the beginning of the season in the Central Highlands, leading to a decrease in supply. Additionally, a drought has resulted in a lower proportion of durian fruits meeting export standards, further driving up prices. Despite these challenges, Vietnam's fruit exports have seen a significant increase of 28% year-over-year, reaching over 3.4 billion USD, with durian products accounting for 40% of this total. Vietnam is currently the leading exporter of durians to China, a market where competition is intense, with other countries like Malaysia also being granted export licenses. Maintaining quality is crucial for Vietnam to retain its market leadership.
