Cucumber prices are rising faster in Russia

From September 10 to 16, Russia experienced an increase in the prices of cucumbers, bananas, and tomatoes by 1.9%, 1.6%, and 0.9% respectively, as reported by Rosstat. In contrast, the prices of cabbage, carrots, potatoes, beets, onions, and apples decreased. The overall price growth for fruit and vegetable products slowed down to 1.5% from 1.7% the previous week. Since the beginning of the year, there has been significant price inflation for potatoes (1.6 times), cabbage and beets (1.3 times), apples (25.4%), carrots (23.2%), and onions (18.4%), while bananas, cucumbers, and tomatoes saw price decreases. The total price increase for fruits and vegetables in 2023 was 24.19%.

The pace of price increase accelerated, while the week before the growth was 1.3%. Bananas, which had been getting cheaper recently, became more expensive by 1.6% last week. The growth in prices for tomatoes, which had practically stopped the week before (0.04%), accelerated to 0.9%. Other vegetables and fruits, the prices of which are monitored by the statistical agency, became cheaper. Cabbage retains its leadership, its prices fell by 6.8% (by 5.6% the week before). Carrots fell in price by 4.5% (3.8%), potatoes by 4.3% (3.2%), beets by 3.6% (2.9%), onions by 2.3% (2%), apples by 2% (2.3%).
