China reduced imports of major crops by 2.3% in 2024

In 2024, China's agricultural imports, which included grains, pulses, and oilseeds, decreased by 2.3% in volume and 15.6% in value compared to the previous year, according to the General Administration of Customs of China. However, there was an 8.1% increase in purchases in December compared to November. The total cost of agricultural imports in 2024 was $4.56 billion, a decrease from the $82.29 billion in 2022.

In 2024, the volume of main crops imported by China – grains, pulses and oilseeds crops – amounted to 157.52 mln tons, down 2.3% compared to 2023. This was reported by the General Administration of Customs of China. According to the published data of the agency, the volume of agricultural products, which China purchased from other countries in 12 months, decreased even more significantly in value terms – by 15.6%, to $69.02 billion.
