Chicken, eggs, lamb became noticeably cheaper in stores in February — AKORT

In February, Russian chain stores experienced a decrease in the retail prices of chicken, eggs, lamb, onions, rice, sunflower oil, and rye bread. The price drops were significant for chicken meat, category C1/C2 eggs, and onions, with chicken meat seeing an average price reduction of 4.13% to 178.2 rubles per kg, and onions dropping by 3.5% to 48 rubles per kg. Additionally, lamb, sunflower oil, and rye bread saw a price decrease of within 1%. However, some products like chicken eggs, onions, broiler chicken carcasses, and black tea were sold at prices below purchasing prices. The Association of Retail Companies (AKORT) reported that inflation dynamics for socially significant categories in February 2025 remained similar to previous years. Retail chains are investing in strategies to contain the growth of basic product costs, with a focus on long-term contracts and pricing principles to reduce price volatility.

Sunflower oil, chicken, granulated sugar, carrots and beef were sold in chain stores at prices below purchasing prices. In general, the inflation dynamics in the socially significant category in February 2025 was at the level of previous years, AKORT noted.
