Belarus has significantly increased the supply of chicken eggs to Russia

In the first half of 2024, Russia imported 447.7 million eggs, primarily from Belarus, which saw a 2.4 times increase from the same period in 2023. Despite this, Russia's domestic egg production and sales have declined. Belarusian eggs have become more popular, making up a significant portion of supermarket shelves and available online, though not all retailers carry them. Prices for Belarusian eggs are sometimes lower than Russian eggs, particularly for C1 category eggs. However, in premium supermarkets, Belarusian chicken eggs are more expensive.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, in the first half of 2024, 447.7 million eggs were imported into Russia. More than 80 percent of this volume comes from Belarus. Compared to the same period in 2023, deliveries increased 2.4 times. “Control and supervisory measures are carried out in relation to all shipped products. Based on the results of the inspection, a decision is made to allow the import of eggs for further sale in Russia; all received products meet the requirements,” Rosselkhoznadzor reported. At the same time, quite a lot of eggs are produced in Russia. Last year, according to Rosstat, production amounted to 38.056 billion units. In 2024, however, there was a drop in production. As of the end of May 2024, egg stocks of Russian agricultural organizations amounted to a total of 335.2 million eggs. This figure is 1.9 percent less compared to the same period in 2023.
