At the fair in Brazil, the aim is to defend the price of hake

The third annual agricultural fair in São Paulo is being held with support from the Brazilian government, with Argentina participating despite the absence of national or provincial authorities. The fair is discussing ways to expedite certification processes and focus on marketable areas, such as hubbsi hake fillet, which accounts for 31% of exports to Brazil. Argentine companies are advocating for higher prices for hake to ensure profitability. There is growing interest in Argentine shrimp, despite past difficulties, and efforts are being made to introduce farmed rainbow trout as a substitute for salmon.

The fair, which is being held in São Paulo for the third consecutive year, has the support of the Brazilian government, which participated in the event both at the opening ceremony and in the presentation of a new fishing platform through which they promise to speed up certification processes by 80%. Argentina was part of the event with a small group of companies that had their stand in the Argentine Sea pavilion, without the presence of national or provincial authorities. Brazil is the main market for hubbsi hake fillet: 31% of what was exported in 2024 went to that destination, another 30% to Spain. The difference between one destination and another is given by macroeconomic stability and the difficulties that the Brazilian market usually presents when hake enters due to health issues.
